A 25-year-old man from Westtown, New York in Orange County, NY was killed in a tragic accident on Sunday.

According to state officials in New Jersey, 25-year-old Andrew Slagle of Westtown, NY was tragically killed in an accident on State Highway 284 in Wantage Township, Sussex County on Sunday afternoon November 17th.

Tragic Accident

According to the New Jersey State Police at approximately 2:02 p.m. Sunday afternoon Andrew Slagle was driving northbound on State Highway 284 in New Jersey in a Chevrolet passenger vehicle when it veered to the right off the roadway and struck several trees alongside the side of the road. Jeffrey Lebron, a spokesman for the New Jersey State Police told the Daily Voice that after the vehicle hit the trees it flipped over.

Tragically Slagle, a volunteer fire firefighter in Slate Hill, New York passed away at the scene according to authorities.

Slate Hill Fire Fighter Dies in Accident

As news of Andrews's passing began to spread many friends and family began to post condolences and messages of support to his family on social media. According to Andrew's family, the 25-year-old was an active member of the Slate Hill Fire Department which posted the heartbreaking news on the Wawayanda Fire Company - Slate Hill Fire Department's Facebook page saying,

"It is with deep regret that the Slate Hill Fire Department announces the death of Active Firefighter Andrew Slagle which occurred yesterday afternoon. Please keep the Slagle Family, his loving girlfriend Maddie, and the members of the Slate Hill FD in your thoughts and prayers."

 

The post gamed hundreds of comments from other Hudson Valley fire departments expressing condolences. One comment that stood out was sent to Andrew's parents,

"Mr & Mrs Slagle, if you happen to read this. THANK YOU, for raising such a honorable man. Andrew is the pinnacle example of good man, good friend and i do not, a doubt good son. He was always there to offer me help, even with how little we would see each other. I wish nothing but the best for you and your family, Andrew will always be in my thoughts and prayers, and i just hope someday i can pass along the pure generosity and kindness your son displayed. Our deepest condolences."
