"In mid-June, he could barely lift his hand, but he just wouldn't give up."

They said their goodbyes, and now they're welcoming him home. Those are the words of Sumangala Huded talking about her husband of 42 years, Portland, CT physician, Dr. Prakash Huded, who wrestled with the coronavirus for five excruciating months and finally beat the virus. Mrs. Huded went on to explain to Hearst Connecticut Media,

There were a couple of times we thought we were going to lose him. We had said our goodbyes several times.

Dr. Huded is loved by many, including the staff from Gladeview Rehabilitation in Old Saybrook. The 74-year-old doctor had been an attending physician at Gladeview before catching the virus.

For a while there, it was touch and go. Even the doctor himself thought he wasn't going to survive, especially after five trips to acute care treatment at Middlesex Hospital. Mrs. Huded explained what the future might hold for her husband.

It's a long road ahead. He's probably got another six to 12 months before we will know if he is fully recovered.

According to the Mayo Clinic, it is true that most people that contract COVID-19 recover entirely within a few weeks, BUT some will continue to experience symptoms after their recovery. The most common signs and symptoms that linger are:

  • Fatigue
  • Cough
  • Shortness of breath
  • Headache
  • Joint pain

Other long-term symptoms that can occur, especially with senior citizens, are:

    • Blood clots
    • Blood vessel problems
    • Problems with mood and fatigue
