A New Milford Staple For the Last 50 Years Closes Its Doors Effective Immediately
I hate writing about closures. Especially when they are local businesses and even more so when they are staples of our community.
Greater Danbury has a good amount of places that really touch the community and that have been in their lives for a long time. It's one of my favorite things about this side of the state - the community really leans into their local businesses and supports them as much as they possibly can.
Just this morning, The Windmill Diner officially announced their closure as their family goes into retirement. A post was added to the New Milford, CT Facebook group saying:
To our patrons and friends, the Windmill Diner Family would like to announce that we are retiring and the restaurant will be closing effective immediately. We would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the community for your support over the last fifty plus years.
It has been a pleasure to serve you and be a part of this community and we hope that you will look back fondly on the memories we have made together
Regards,
The Windmill Diner Family
Comments started pouring in about the community's love for the diner. Many people were saying thanks for the memories, that their diner was the best, and the community was really going to miss them.
It's really hard watching a place that was around for so much of your life close their doors. It's definitely never an easy decision for business owners, but I am wishing them the absolute best and a very happy retirement. You were clearly very loved in the community, Windmill Diner! Thanks for all you've done.
