A Decade of Inactivity Has Done This to a Now-Abandoned West Haven Neighborhood
A phrase that will send chills down the spine of any land-owner is Eminent Domain. Eminent Domain is "the right of a government or its agent to expropriate private property for public use, with payment of compensation." For us common folks, it means that someone with a lot of money wants to build something where your home is, so how much you want for it?

Over a decade ago, Simon Property Group, the owner of Connecticut's Clinton Premium Outlets, started buying up property in a neighborhood in West Haven. Their plan was to build a sick mall/community/lifestyle center, similar to Manhattan's "The High Line", called The Haven. According to NBCConnecticut.com, and West Haven officials, the plan is dead. No more The Haven for West Haven.
Brutal news for everyone that sold their waterfront family home along 1st Avenue in West Haven. To add insult after injury, that whole neighborhood has had to deal with abandoned, boarded up homes disintegrating before their eyes for over a decade. Here are a few before and after shots taken 10 years apart, in July of 2011, and December 2021. It's shocking what a decade of inactivity has done to this neighborhood.
