Port Ewen is one Hudson Valley town that you might not even know you've been through.

As far as size goes, the hamlet of Port Ewen (located in the town of Esopus) isn't one of the Hudson Valley's biggest towns but does have a lot to offer in a tiny area. If you've ever driven on Route 9W from the Highland part of Ulster County to Kingston, New York, you have driven through Port Ewen...LOL!

One of the Hudson Valleys Oldest Beverage Stores

Buying beverages for residents of Port Ewen is super easy and convenient as Port Ewen is home to one of the area's oldest operating beverage stores. Van Loan's Discount Beverage located at 327 Broadway, has been providing customers from near and far with excellent service since 1974. How does a business stay open for 48 years? After shopping at Van Loan's many times I can tell you that the staff is extremely nice and VERY helpful so that might have something to do with it...LOL!

Sojourner Truth Statue

Being located in the town of Esopus, Port Ewen also chose to celebrate Sojourner Truth. Truth was a slave in West Park who was enslaved from 1808 until she, along with her infant daughter escaped in 1826. After escaping in 1828 Truth went to court to try and recover her son and won. She became the first black woman to win such a case against a white man according to Wikipedia. Not only is she the first African American woman to have a statue in the Capitol building but she also has a statute to remember her journey in Port Ewen. It's located on the corner of Broadway and Salem Street.

Roller Skating is ALIVE in Port Ewen!

Roller skating might not be as popular as it once was but one place you can still skate is Wood'n Wheel located on Route 9W. From birthday parties to after-prom celebrations, most of us have at least one Wood'n Wheel memory...LOL! I can remember having my oldest daughter's birthday party there years ago. It was the one time I tried skating with her and her friends and wound up failing really hard. So hard that I needed help in getting off the rink. To this day she still makes fun of me!

Pizza & Diner

We got numerous text messages to let us know that Port Ewen is home to two great places for a meal. Diane texted us that Mario's Pizza located on Broadway has amazing pizza, so good that they have been around for 40+ years. Jake texted us that one of his favorite places for a meal anytime of day is the Port Ewen diner located on Route 9W, "Great food!" They have a wide range of food available with daily specials.
