The bakery capital of Connecticut you say?

We're definitely good at the food scene in Connecticut. We have just about everything you need. I keep finding these hidden gem foods that I didn't know existed at different places around the state and it's making me happy. I think I need to go on a full food tour soon.

I came across an Instagram post that caught my eye. It was one that talked about the "Bakery Capital of Connecticut". Is it official? I don't think so. But it highlighted some pretty amazing places that I think are worth talking about. The post from @/pastathedocctblog started the post by saying that the Bakery Capital of Connecticut was Farmington Valley.

The post then went on to talk about the 11-mile stretch between Small State Provisions in Avon and Julien's Farm store in Granby where there are 5 bakeries that each have a 4.5+ Yelp Star rating. I instantly had to take a look at this because all of the different food items in the reel looked amazing.

The first place on the list is Small State Provisions located at 205 Old Farms Road in Avon. By the looks of their website, they are known for their breads especially. They also have baked goods, sandwiches, toasts and more. This looks like a great small business that is a must-try.

Next on the list is Cake Gypsy located at 35 East Main Street in Avon. They seem to be known for their cupcakes and have a bunch of different flavors to choose from. Their website shows they were voted best cupcake in Connecticut. I've never been, but everything looks amazing. I think I may need to snag a cupcake from there one day.

Then we have BouNom Bakery located at 136 Simsbury Road in Avon. They are known for all of their different desserts / pastries / baked goods. Their menu alone will leave your mouth watering.

Following that we have Le Banh Patisserie located at 542 Hopmeadow Street in Simsbury. The cakes shown on their website are to-die-for. I think I've found the next place I'll be ordering a cake from. Their site shows that they specialize in French pastries, Vietnamese coffee and all occasion cakes.

Lastly, we have Julien's Farm Store located at 175 Bard Door Hills Road in Granby. They are known for being "local, simple and delicious." The note on their website states that they are a "garden gourmet-style farm store and bakery producing artisanal, homemade breads, sandwiches, cakes, pastries and other provisions, using traditional baking techniques." They also stated everything is made from scratch. I can only image how fresh everything tastes here. I will be making a round to go and visit.

Wow, nothing like a full stretch of bakeries when you're craving a sweet treat. Next time I'm in the area, I'm popping by every single business. It's so cool to me that they're in a stretch and that you can easily visit every single one. I would definitely check out their hours for which days and times they are open, but that is such a fun thing to do one day.

I will always shout out our local businesses in Connecticut. I want to see them continue to flourish and this is such a unique way to do so.

My Picks for the Best Antipasto in Western Connecticut 2025

Does the combination of pepperoncini, cheese, and mortadella make you quiver? Do you enjoy cauliflower soaked in olive oil? Me too, I love Antipasto, and I've tried it from dozens of delis over the past year. Here are my favorite servings of Antipasto over the past year in Western Connecticut

7 of the Best Places to Get Delicious Nachos in the Greater Danbury Area

In my opinion, nachos are the height of indulgence. If you want comfort food, nachos always deliver. I've been thinking about them all week and I know where I get mine (Pippa's - Danbury) but we've heard my opinions plenty so we asked the listeners of the Ethan and Lou Show what they thought. These are some of answers we got texted to us on the I-95 Rock Mobile app chat feature.
