With the Amazon Center Coming to Waterbury, Is Middlebury Safe Now?
There are now 16 Amazon distribution/logistic centers across Connecticut, the next one is coming to Waterbury, can you hear cheering in Middlebury?

For the past two years an alliance of concerned residents of Middlebury have fought tirelessly against a proposed distribution facility in their town. News broke yesterday that the City of Waterbury has sold $2.5 million dollars of land on the Waterbury/Naugatuck town line where a new 3.2 million square foot Amazon logistics facility will be built starting very soon. This huge deal has been in the works for the better part of the past year, and some of the 'Messing with wetland" hurdles were cleared up over the winter.
I've driven through the Naugatuck Industrial Park many times, and I don't think that the average resident will notice anything, besides many more trucks pulling onto and off of Rt. 8, after this beast of a facility is brewed up. This would have not been the case if this facility had ended up at the former Timex HQ in Middlebury.
Of the Amazon centers in Connecticut, one of the most prominent in plain sight to the public is along Rt. 20 - the Bradley International Airport connector in Windsor Locks. For years tobacco farms were what you noticed as you drove along that road. Here's a photo of the site the Amazon facility you see at the top of this article from 2012 -
Here's what it looks like today -
By the way, the fight against a distribution facility in Middlebury continues, just because Amazon chose Waterbury, there are plenty of other multi-national companies that are looking for a place in Connecticut.
