Why the New Career Academy is the Future for Danbury Students

The newly proposed 'Danbury Career Academy' is a step closer to becoming a reality.

Danbury Mayor Mark Boughton told the ctinsider.com that the $45 million Career Academy, "would be incredibly productive for our children." The Summit at Danbury is beginning to take shape inside the old Matrix corporate complex. With it, the groundwork for a career academy that could help shape the lives of Danbury students for years to come is also beginning to fall into place. According to Michael Basile, the Summit's project manager,

This will probably be one of the first live, work, play educate facilities in the country of that magnitude.

This unique concept could significantly help students better understand their career paths and provide students with real-world opportunities. Step one is the city will be asking the state for a grant for 80% of the project. If everything falls into place, the Mayor said that Danbury students could be attending the academy as early as the fall of 2023.

Project Manager, Michael Basile, has called the Summit at Danbury a 'city within a city.' with the ultimate goal of turning the 1.2 million square foot complex into a flourishing destination for employers, tenants, and the public.

Danbury's school population is expected to increase by as much as 7.1% over the next ten years, and the Danbury Career Academy could help address the growth at the high school and middle school levels. Superintendent of Danbury Schools, Sal Pascarella, summed it up by saying,

It's a home run for the kids and everyone. This will help create the conditions for the youngsters to obtain internships and make those connections to the content they want to learn.
