UCONN Director of Cell Analysis Says Herd Immunity Will Lead Us to Freedom

I've noticed that most people don't like being told what to do, and the same holds when it comes to COVID-19 restrictions.

Maybe some of you wonder what the recommended protocol is after you've been fully vaccinated against COVID-19. There are no easy answers to that question.

Personally,  I believe in science and following the guidelines set by the CDC. I  prefer not to take the chance of possibly spending a couple of weeks in a hospital bed with a tube down my throat, but that's just me.

Some of you might say that "This is America, land of the free and home of the brave, and I'll do what I damn well want to." OK, that's cool because it is 'merica.

With all of that said, you get to make that decision because it all comes to risk. Remember, the vaccines are approximately 90 to 95% effective, not 100%, so I'm going to outline what the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) are recommending. As more Americans are vaccinated, Dr. Anthony Fauci says that new guidelines for those who have been vaccinated "will be coming soon from the CDC".

Here's what we do know. According to the website voanews.com, people who have been vaccinated do not need to quarantine if they come in contact with an infected person. That's it! That is what the CDC knows to be a fact.

Sure, your risk goes down after you've been vaccinated, but it also goes down if you practice social distancing and mask-wearing, which the CDC highly recommends. Pedro Mendes, Director of UConn's Center for Cell Analysis and Modeling is all about herd immunity. He told CT Insider,

One thing that's different about vaccination is it's going to provide us immunity, and that immunity will lead us to freedom.

Mendes went on to say that herd immunity will be reached when 80% of the population is immune to the coronavirus. This is why it's so important for people to get the vaccination.
