Westchester Town Preparing for Asian Murder Hornets

This Westchester town is calling it "the next threat," and they feel it's necessary to prepare themselves.

The Town of Greenburgh is bordered by the City of Yonkers and the town of Mount Pleasant in Westchester County, New York. When they heard about the Asian Murder Hornets' arrival in Washington, they immediately got to work preparing for its appearance in New York, according to an article on dailyvoice.com.

Greenburgh's Town Supervisor, Paul Feiner, is "stockpiling epinephrine and other medications" in their attempt to get out in front of this murderous two-inch hornet just in case they eventually show up in New York.

The danger these Asian hornets pose has been downplayed by numerous bug experts who told the Associated Press quite a different story. According to an article in the Hartford Courant, these bug experts equate the Asian hornet "hype" to the African killer bees brouhaha from the 1970s.

On a personal note, if you've ever been stung by an everyday honey bee, the sting is usually just a nuisance with maybe a bit of swelling at the sting site. If you're allergic to bee stings or you get stung multiple times, that can be a painful and sometimes a life-threatening situation. Washington Agricultural Department entomologist, Chris Looney, told the Associated Press,

These hornets are not coming to get you. The number of people who are stung and have to seek medical attention is incredibly small.
