Weekend Fire Destroys Bethel Home, Multiple Towns Respond

At around 8:15 pm Saturday night, Bethel Fire Fighters were dispatched to County Way Road to battle a structure fire after multiple 911 calls. By the time fire crews arrived the blaze had already engulfed the entire back of the home and the attic.

According to a statement from the Bethel Fire Department Facebook page, what made this fire so difficult was the fact that there were no hydrants in the area, so additional tankers were requested from the Dodgingtown, Georgetown, Germantown, and Beaver Brook fire departments.

Due to the high heat and humidity, additional man power was also requested from Danbury's Wooster Hose, Independent Hose, Phoenix Hose, Water Witch, and Brookfield to battle the fire, giving firefighters a chance to be rotated out often to avoid heat exhaustion.

Fortunately, the family wasn't home at the time of the fire, but are now being assisted by the Red Cross. The Bethel Fire Marshal and the State Police Fire Investigation Unit are working to establish the cause of the fire.
