Waterbury Police Seek Port Chester Man In Columbus Statue Vandalism Case

A Port Chester, NY man has been identified by the Waterbury Police Department as the suspect in the 4th of July vandalism of the city's Christopher Columbus statue, which stands in front of City Hall. According to a press release we just received from the Waterbury PD, officers were called to City Hall at around 5:30 in the morning of the 4th of July on a criminal mischief complaint, and found that someone had broken the head off of the statue.

Detectives and the Crime Scene Unit reviewed surveillance video and determined that a suspect wearing dark clothing climbed up on the statue, struck it several times with an unknown object until the statue's head fell off, and then ran away after grabbing an object on the ground in the vicinity.

Detectives found out that someone was trying to sell the broken-off nose of the statue. They have since determined that the person that was trying to sell the nose off of the statue, and the suspect in the vandalism, were one in the same.

The detectives applied for and were granted an arrest warrant for Brandon Ambrose, DOB 2-10-98, of Grove Street in Port Chester, NY. for 1st Degree Criminal Mischief, 6th Degree Larceny, and Desecration of Property.
