Was There an Earthquake in the Lower Hudson Valley Friday?
It was a minor one, but there was indeed an earthquake earlier today (May 25th) about a mile southwest of the town of Nanuet, New York, according to the Nanuet Patch. The tremor, authenticated by the United States Geological Service this afternoon, (Friday) at 3:22, clocked in as a magnitude 1.8 on the Richter scale. Not that many people reported feeling it, as it was truly minor, and five kilometers underneath the earth’s surface.
It happens that the earthquake occurred right near the Lamont Doherty Earth Observatory, which is a research arm of Columbia University, situated in Palisades, New York. They were the organization that reported the quake to the US Geological Service.
After seeing several tornadoes nearby last week, snowflakes falling well in the Spring this year, and now an earthquake, I’m really starting to worry about weather related weirdness facing us in the future. The question is: What’s next?
