Vice President Kamala Harris to Visit Connecticut Friday
A few weeks ago, First Lady Jill Biden paid us a visit here in Connecticut, now this Friday Vice President Kamala Harris will be heading to the Nutmeg State.
This will be the Vice President's first visit to Connecticut, and she'll be heading to New Haven to push the American Rescue Plan which is part of the administrations "Help Is Here" campaign.
New Haven Mayor Justin Elicker told newstimes.com that he's pretty excited that the Vice President is coming to the city.
I am excited to hear that Vice President Kamala Harris is coming to New Haven, this is critical in emphasizing the importance of the American Rescue Plan and how our leaders at the federal government are working tirelessly to help those who are struggling, especially in our community. I especially want to thank Rep. DeLauro for fighting for decades for the child tax credit.
Connecticut has always been a big supporter of child care providers, and the American Rescue Plan included billions in funding to help keep those centers open and re-open those that may have had to close during the pandemic.
Some $2.7 billion has been allocated from the newly signed plan for state government and some $1.6 billion going to town governments. There's also $1.2 billion for schools and millions more going to vaccine distribution and transportation.
So exactly where will Harris be stopping when she gets to New Haven? Due to security restrictions, there's not a lot of details, but Mayor Elicker says she will be paying a visit to a local childcare center.
The Vice President's trip to Connecticut is part of a nationwide tour around the country highlighting the $1.9 trillion American Rescue Plan that was passed a few weeks ago.
