Police have closed a main road in downtown Danbury due a large sinkhole.

News Times is reporting that the sinkhole has opened up on Franklin Street, which has prompted Danbury Police to close the area of the road from Main Street to Farview Avenue.

The Danbury Public Works Department has been dispatched and are heading over to the site. They will evaluate the situation and will investigate just what caused the big crevice to form in the road.

It is reported that the sinkhole is measuring about three feet wide. As it was forming, it filled up with water very quickly. No other details are available at this time as this is an ongoing story. If you are planning to travel in the downtown area of Danbury today, please make note that the area of Franklin Avenue from Main Street to Farview Avenue will be closed until the sinkhole is evaluated and repaired.
