Thousands of Connecticut Nursing Home Workers Plan to Strike

Well, it looks like there could be more picket lines coming to the area soon, as nursing home workers say that are ready to go out on strike.

The Health Care Workers Union sent out strike notices to 20 Connecticut Nursing homes over the weekend. Apparently, some 2,500 workers have been working without a contract for the last two years and have only had a 2% raise since 2015, according to wtnh.com.

Another major issue with the union are the staffing levels. Also, since a majority of the patients at these homes are on Medicaid, any wage agreement will be a tough nut to crack unless a new state budget is in place. A spokesperson for District 1199 of the Health Care workers union says a strike deadline has been set for May 1.

Here's a look at some of the facilities that could be affected if no agreements can be reached and a strike goes into effect:

Nine ICare facilities

Bidwell, Westside, Silver Springs, Farmington, Chelsea Place, Trinity Hill, Wintonbury, Kettlebrook, and Chestnut

Four Autumn facilities

New Britain, Waterbury, Norwalk, and Cromwell

Two National facilities

Bloomfield Center for Nursing and Rehabilitation, and Maple View Health & Rehabilitation Center

Plus these five facilities

Windsor Health and Rehabilitation Center, Advanced Center Nursing & Rehabilitation, West Hartford Health & Rehabilitation Center, Orange, and JACC Norwich.
