This is the Closest Thing We Have to a Buc-ee’s in Connecticut
Have you heard of Buc-ee's? I just went to one for the first time while I was driving through Missouri and I really don't see what all of the hype is about.
Sorry Connecticut, there is no way that the hottest highway rest stop in all of the US will be setting up shop anywhere in New England anytime soon. But don't worry, we have something similar here is you want to get close to the experience.
Buc-ee's is a chain of supersized highway rest stops that is headquartered in Texas, they have 50 locations so far across a few of the Midwest and Southern states. Buc-ee's is famous for Bj's/Costco/Super Walmart-sized truck stops that serve fresh food, BBQ, travel services, and Beaver Nuggets. Want a pulled pork sandwich with your choice of 25 varieties of beef jerky? Buc-ee's has it. I can see why social media has blown them up to the mysterious icon that they are to Northern folk, but honestly, we already have a few locations in Connecticut that are very similar.
There are two TA Travel Centers located along I-84 in Connecticut, in Southington and Willington. The product selection in a Buc-ee's and TA Travel Center is fairly equal, but the fresh food choices are far apart. I've never seen a carving station at TA, but the set up is very similar.
The highway rest areas along I-95 and the Merritt Parkway are weak in comparison to the TA Travel Centers, way overpriced, and the gift shops/convenience stores are tiny.
Want to experience Buc-ee's without traveling to Texas? Hit the TA centers in Southington and Willington, they're the closest thing we have.
