His birth name was Samuel Langhorne Clemens, but he was best known by his pen name, Mark Twain. He was an American writer, humorist, entrepreneur, publisher, and lecturer.

He was known as "the father of American literature". He penned The Adventures of Tom Sawyer in 1876 and its sequel, the Adventures of Huckleberry Finn in 1884. His first love was as a steamboat captain on the Mississippi River.

Twain set out to explore the wild West where he became a miner. When that failed, he went to work at the Virginia City newspaper, which fueled his passion for writing. He also invented a board game called Memory Builder.

Twain was born in 1835 and died at his home in Redding, which he named Stormfield. From 1908 to 1910, the last two years of his life he spent enjoying his 6,300 square foot captivating estate in Redding. As you take a look through my photo gallery of Mark Twain's final home, you will also discover why Samuel Langhorne Clemens, aka Mark Twain, was such an interesting character.
