William Kidd, better known as Captain Kidd, was born in Dundee, Scotland in 1654. Capt. Kidd was a Scottish sea captain who was commissioned as a privateer, which means he attacked other ships on the ocean seas and engaged in war, and took what he wanted.

The legend has been passed down through the years that large deposits of gold were made at Gardiner's Island, Dunderberg, Crow's Nest, New York City, Coney Island, Ipswich, the marshes back of Boston, Cape Cod, Nantucket, Isles of Shoals, Money Island, Ocean Beach, the Bahamas, the Florida Keys.
