Honestly, I'm not much of a Halloween fan, and I'll tell you why. When I was approximately seven years old in 1958, my mother dressed me up as a Russian peasant woman, lipstick and all. When I looked in the mirror for the first time, I was horrified by what I saw, and I broke down in tears. I couldn't explain to her how much I disliked what she had done. From a little boy, she had turned me into a little girl, lipstick and all. Maybe, just maybe, that is the reason why Halloween is not my favorite time of the year.

I didn't let my traumatic childhood incident affect my children's Halloween fun, so here we are 65 years later, with another Halloween almost upon us. The following are some of the most popular costumes that Connecticut kids are choosing for Halloween 2023, and you can bet that a Russian Peasant costume isn't one of them!
