This weekend my family and I went to a show at the new Visual and Performing Arts Center on Western Connecticut State University's Westside Campus. We saw The Cat in the Hat and loved it!

Our four-year-old daughter loves the story, so seeing it live was a real treat for her. I really think the actors did the show justice. They are all students at WCSU and they were great!

I am not an expert when it comes to acting or plays, but I was impressed with what the students brought to the stage. They were funny and entertaining. I also thought the narrator had a great voice and she didn't just narrate the story she reacted to what was happening on stage as well.

The props were fun and everyone who worked behind the scenes was on top of the set changes and the lighting. Great job!

I definitely recommend checking out this show. It's about an hour long and tickets are $15 each.

Show times are:

  • Sunday July, 12 at 3 p.m.
  • Saturday July, 18 at 3 p.m.
  • Sunday July 19 at 3 p.m.

On a side note, this was the first time I had been in the Visual & Performing Arts Center since it opened this past September. It was in the process of being built when I graduated from WCSU in 2013, so I hadn't seen the finished product yet.

The building is beautiful! I'm hoping to see more shows there. They really did a very nice job with the design of the building. We walked around the outside of it and you can't help but look up at this impressive structure. The kids liked the automatic revolving doors at the entrances.

So, if you have little ones or you want to support Western's Visual & Performing Arts Center, then you should check out this show. It's a fun time and you get to support a local school and the students. It's a win for everyone!
