Amphibious Aircraft Lands in Candlewood Lake and Boaters Go Nuts

A 1951 Grumman amphibious aircraft named the Candlewood Clipper dropped from out of the skies this past Sunday and came in for a landing on Candlewood Lake.

The Albatross approached from the north and landed in the strip of water between Pine Island and the tip of Candlewood Isle and within 15 minutes, it was surrounded by 20 boats. This Albatross was built in 1951 and was used primarily by the United States Air Force, Navy, and Coast Guard for search and rescue missions in Korea and the Vietnam War.

The aircraft looked like royalty as it slowly dropped into the waters of Candlewood Lake. It was no wonder boats came from all around as they surrounded the aircraft to get a closer look. The Candlewood Clipper decided a sleepover was a fine idea, as it spent the night anchored next to Pine Island.
