I eat a lot of breakfast sandwiches, in fact, I could eat breakfast food three meals a day. Give me an egg, toast, and a meat - bacon, ham, sausage, whatever, I'll eat it. I've tried hundreds of bacon, egg, and cheese breakfast sandwiches from hundreds of places, and there are three places in Western Connecticut that I consider superior.

In my humble, gluttonous opinion, there are three places in Western CT that are breakfast sandwich Masters. Arethusa a mano in Bantam, JJ Stacks in Brookfield, and Uncle Matt's Bakery & Cafe in Sandy Hook.

The bacon, egg, and cheese at JJ Stacks, 537 Federal Road, Brookfield, is astounding. Why? Melted cheese, delicious bacon, the bun was great, and the hash browns I added on top made for a savory, gooey delight. JJ Stacks Owner/Chef Joe Attonito puts his heart and his superior cooking skills into everything that he serves, and I respect him immensely.

My second choice is Uncle Matt's Bakery & Cafe at 105 Church Hill Road in Sandy Hook. Uncle Matt's 'The Focaccia' breakfast sandwich blew me away. Who knew that ricotta, sun dried tomato, and olive tapenade on Focaccia would stop me in my tracks? Uncle Matt. Bravo sir. I can't wait to try your 'Fried Avocado' breakfast sandwich next.

My final choice for the top three is one that I just discovered yesterday morning on the way in - Arethusa a mano at 833 Bantam Road in Bantam. I ordered their two egg and bacon on an house-made English muffin, and I almost ran back in after the first bite to bow to the workers, it's that good. The mix of three of Arethusa's chesses on top was incredible - Bella Bantam, Crybaby, and Europa cheese melt into a gooey trifecta of creaminess. The bacon? Perfect. The English muffin? Delightful.

Go to these three places if you haven't been already. You will not be disappointed.
