The ‘Best Meteor Shower of the Year’ Will Peak Over Connecticut This Weekend
I absolutely love when the sky does its thing. Stars, meteor showers, pretty moons, all of it.
The Perseid Meteor Shower is currently happening and is considered "the best meteor shower of the year" according to NASA. What is the Perseid meteor shower? I'm glad you asked. According to the site, it has swift and bright meteors, leaving long streaks of light and color through Earth's atmosphere. There are also about 50-100 meteors seen per hour.
It started on July 14 and will go until September 1, but the peak is happening this weekend. The night of Sunday, August 11 into the early hours of the morning on August 12, you'll be able to see the meteor shower with great viewing conditions. It is best viewed right before sunrise, but is said that it's possible to view meteors from this shower from as early as 10 PM. You also want to make sure you're not around city lights, so a dark area would be best.
We're actually supposed to finally have some clear weather on Sunday, so it might be the perfect time for an event like this. It's so cool when we're able to see things in the sky that don't happen every day. It completely fascinates me.
I plan to check out the sky in the early hours of the morning before the sun starts rising. For now, the skies look like they will be clear, so I hope we're able to see these meteors pretty clearly. If I am able to photograph them, I will absolutely add it to the article.
If you end up taking pictures, send them my way!
