The Best Horror-Comedy Series Set in Connecticut You’ve Never Seen
Each week on the I-95 Morning Show, we have a segment called “TV Talk Tuesday.” It's not just a clever name, it’s also exactly what it sounds like— a fun, casual conversation about the TV shows we’re currently watching, all happening every Tuesday.

The current TV scene is filled with a ton of exciting new hits, like Severance (Season 2), Paradise, and The White Lotus (Season 3), which has been the main focus of our recent segments. But there’s one show that I’ve been holding off on discussing, mainly because it’s been overshadowed by all the buzzy new releases. I’m talking about Shining Vale, a horror-comedy that definitely deserves some attention—and I’ll be diving into it now before the new seasons of other shows wind down.
Shining Vale stars Courtney Cox, Greg Kinnear, and Mira Sorvino, and it’s one of those shows that combines dark humor with genuine thrills. Set in a house in Connecticut with a grim past, it’s not just a spooky setting—it’s also deeply entertaining. The series plays with the themes of psychological horror, mixing laugh-out-loud moments with plenty of jump scares.
Here’s a quick rundown of the plot, courtesy of IMDB:
A family relocates to a quiet small town, moving into a house where horrific events have unfolded in the past. However, it seems like no one notices the eerie vibe of the place—except for Pat, the mother, who starts to believe that she’s either battling depression or, more worryingly, being haunted by something darker. The catch? The symptoms of depression and possession seem strangely similar.
If you're someone who enjoys a little thrill along with your laughs, Shining Vale delivers on both fronts. There’s good news and bad news regarding the show, though.
Good News:
Both seasons of Shining Vale are currently available to stream on HBO Max (Premium), Hulu (Premium), Amazon (Premium), and YouTube (Premium). So, if you’re looking for something fresh to binge, you’ve got access to all the episodes right now.
Bad News:
Sadly, Shining Vale was cancelled by Starz in December 2023. But here’s the silver lining: ever since it made its debut on HBO Max, the show has seen a surge in popularity, sparking rumors that it could potentially get another shot at renewal. Whether or not that happens remains to be seen, but it’s enough to keep fans hopeful.
Even if the show doesn’t return for a third season, I’m still a big fan and would highly recommend checking it out. It’s quirky, dark, and definitely worth your time, even if it’s a one-and-done experience.
