When you have little ones, it's important to find excuses to get out of the house and have a date night.

That is what my wife Erica and I did on Saturday night and it was not far from our house at all, inside the Danbury Ice Arena.

I'm going to take a beating for admitting this but I'll do it anyway, the original plan was for us to go to the Danbury Hat Tricks game against the Watertown Wolves, we did but we left.

We didn't leave because the game was not exciting but because I wanted to try an activity that Erica has been asking me to do for awhile, axe throwing. The Danbury Ice Arena has a new axe throwing bar right in the facility so we walked from our seats to the bar, paid and got setup.

In just a few minutes, we settled into our lane and got schooled on what we need to do, how to throw an axe safely and effectively.

The kid (young man) who instructed us was great, with just a few pointers he had us throwing like pros and getting the most out of the activity. In fact, I have shoulder problems so throwing overhand properly was an issue so the instructor showed me how to throw it underhand without pain and I was on fire from that point on.

There was another unexpected thing that happened, I found that watching my wife throw an axe was both terrifying and a turn on. Chef recommends (I'm Chef).

This bull's-eye was a staged photo but that's not to say we didn't have any, we each nailed a few of them and found that throwing correctly was not that hard to do.

I think it was harder for me to throw correctly because I had to unlearn all of my baseball instruction. Yes, that is an excuse, yes Erica beat me. So, there it is, I walked out of a hockey game to have a date and lost the axe throwing competition to my wife but we had a blast.

I asked if the bar and axe lounge are open when the Hat Tricks don't have home games, they said not yet but they are planning on trying that soon. You can inquire about the Axe Tricks Bar, Hat Tricks single game tickets, season tickets and merchandise on the team website. Trust me when I tell you, it's worth every penny and if you plan it better than I did, you can catch a game and do the Axe throwing all in one evening.

P.S. Yes, we had adult beverages, tequila was flowing like wine.

Camping for Cans 2021 Photo Album

Camping for Cans is our annual food/cash drive to benefit the Hillside Food Outreach. Hillside is an organization that feeds those in need all throughout the Greater-Danbury area. For years, I-95 has teamed up with them to get the word out about the needs of our neighbors in the area. 2021 was a smash hit and we raised thousands of dollars and truck loads of food with Hillside and our corporate sponsors. These were some of the many faces that joined us over the weekend (11/19-11/21).
