A car burning on the side of I-84 is certainly not your typical scene on a beautiful afternoon. But that is exactly what one motorist came across yesterday at about 2:35 pm.

Police report that a 26-year-old man from White plains was driving along the westbound side of I-84 near exit 17 in Middlebury when he crashed. Another motorist saw the car burning on the side of the road and stopped to help. As the good samaritan fought the flames and tried to free the man from the burning vehicle, off duty Sgt. Dogali of Troop G in Bridgeport was driving home in the same area on I-84. He pulled over and used a fire extinguisher from his police car in an attempt to douse the flames which were now out of control.

Trooper First Class McGeever and Trooper First Class Welch of Southbury Troop A arrived on the scene and together the four men were able to free the accident victim. He was taken to the hospital with, thankfully, only minor injuries. Two of the troopers were treated for minor cuts. Watch the dramatic rescue below:
