Police have identified a New Milford man who has died after being shot in his home this past Saturday (August 10).

According to the Connecticut State Police, first responders from New Milford received a 9-1-1 call around 5:30 PM on Saturday night, requesting an ambulance for a gunshot wound at a local residence.

Since that time, the man who police say was the victim of the shooting, 43-year-old Robert C. Cerrato of New Milford, has died.

As of this writing, no further information has been provided as to the nature of the shooting, the nature of Cerrato's actual injuries or when exactly the New Milford man passed away.

The only other information that has been made public at this time is the fact that at the request of State Attorney Dawn Gallow, the investigation has been taken over from the New Milford Police Department by the Western District Major Crime Unit of the Connecticut State Police.

This is a developing story and we'll be sure to keep you updated as more information rolls in.
