The pursuit began around 3:09 PM when the Putnam County Sheriff's Department in New York contacted Troop A in Southbury, requesting assistance in apprehending a vehicle fleeing into Connecticut.

The suspect vehicle, a black Infiniti with Connecticut plates, was spotted traveling slowly on I-84 eastbound as it crossed the state line. A Trooper arrived on the scene near Danbury, where they observed several marked Putnam County Sheriff’s cruisers with flashing lights and sirens following the vehicle. The deputies successfully boxed the Infiniti in on the shoulder near Exit 8, bringing the pursuit to an end.

Upon stopping the vehicle, authorities detained the driver, identified as 33-year-old Courtney Calvo of Naugatuck, and her passenger. Calvo’s driver's license was found to be under suspension, and the vehicle was observed to have damaged rims and worn-down tires, suggesting the car was being operated with defective equipment. The investigation allegedly revealed that the Infiniti had been involved in a series of retail thefts in New York, and when the police attempted to stop the vehicle earlier, Calvo had accelerated rapidly and weaved in and out of traffic, nearly hitting other motorists.

As the pursuit continued into Connecticut, the vehicle nearly collided with a law enforcement cruiser. Once the car was finally stopped, Calvo attempted to reverse and nearly struck a deputy. Further investigation found that the Infiniti's registration was invalid, it lacked insurance, and the vehicle did not meet legal requirements.

Calvo was taken into custody and transported to Troop A for processing. She faces multiple charges, including:

  • C.G.S. 14-12(a) - Failure to Renew Registration
  • C.G.S. 14-147(c) - Improper Use of Registration
  • C.G.S. 14-215 - Illegal Operation of a Motor Vehicle while Under Suspension
  • C.G.S. 14-222 - Reckless Driving
  • C.G.S. 38a-371 - Failure to Insure Private Motor Vehicle
  • C.G.S. 53a-64 - Reckless Endangerment 2nd Degree
  • C.G.S. 53a-167a - Interfering with an Officer
  • C.G.S. 54-170 - Fugitive from Justice

Calvo was unable to post her $500,000 bond and is scheduled for arraignment at Danbury Superior Court.

We need to stop referring to certain people as motorists, that is too official sounding for the way most people drive. You are not a motorist, not an operator, stop it. Some folks have feet and a head, and they drive like that is all working without an operating system.
