UPDATE: As of 5:04 PM, the Western Connecticut State University Campus has been cleared.

A report of a person with a gun at Western Connecticut State University has prompted the Danbury school to issue a "shelter in place."

According to a recent tweet from Mayor Mark Boughton, both the Connecticut State Police and the Danbury Police Department have responded to an "unsubstantiated" report someone with a long gun on the Westside campus of the university.

The University reports that police are currently working to clear the Visual and Performing Arts building, and at this time, there have been zero reports of any shots fired and nothing has been found.

A report from the News Times says that while AIS Magnet School, Westside Middle School and Mill Ridge Primary are on lockdown as well, other Danbury schools will be dismissed.

All classes and activities on both WCSU campuses have been cancelled for the remainder of the day, and police ask that people stay away from the area while things get sorted out.

This is a developing story, and we'll be sure to keep you updated as more information rolls in.
