It's an all too familiar occurrence this time of year. A section of Route 7 in Kent remains closed due to flooding from the Housatonic River.

It's not as bad as last year, when ice dams forced the road to be closed for several days, forced families out of their homes and led the town to declare a state of emergency, but once again, Route 7 in Kent fell victim to rising water from the Housatonic River.

A portion of Route 7 was shut down Thursday, and remained closed all weekend, however town officials are calling the flooding 'moderate' compared with the severe flooding that occurred last year when the ice dam in that area reached for almost 2 miles.

According to newstimes.com, town officials, and officials of the Kent Volunteer Fire Department said Sunday that the flood waters are expected to recede a bit over the next day or so.

For now officials in Kent are urging drivers to please stay away from floodwaters and follow all detour signs, plus never approach or try to walk on the ice jams.
