Remembering the January Blizzard of 2011 in Greater Danbury
It was one of the biggest blizzards ever in Greater Danbury and it happened between January 11 and January 12 in 2011.
It was the second major snowfall within a month and it blanketed areas of Greater Danbury with more than 20-plus inches of snow. Some spots got even more -- up to 30 inches. Danbury totaled more than 40 inches of snow between this storm and another storm in late December of 2010.
Snow was falling at three-to-four inches per hour, crippling travel, grounding flights out of Bradley Airport, and of course, I-84 was a mess, with traffic basically at a stand still with tractor trailers skidding off the road. Schools in the area were closed for three consecutive days.
