Popular Department Store Announces Additional Closures, Will Connecticut Be Affected?
The conversation continues.
All year long, we've heard of corporate chains, department stores, retailers, drug stores, just about every possible category that have announced massive closures that will be happening by the end of this year / into next year. It seems the conversation continues every week as another company announces their plans.
Hopefully next year we won't see as many as we did this year, but it has me wondering just what kind of status a lot of these businesses stand in. I feel for local businesses especially. We see the financial hardships that corporate businesses are going through, so I can't imagine how local businesses feel. This is just your reminder to always shop local to help those businesses out.
I came across an article on CBS News that talked about Macy's plan to add to their already-long list of store closures. They have previously announced that they would close 50 stores this year, and now that number has moved to 65. Over the next 3 years, they plan to eliminate 150 underperforming stores.
Macy's currently has 6 stores in Connecticut including Danbury, Farmington, Manchester, Milford, Stamford and Trumbull. After reading the news about the plan to close 65 stores this year and 150 within the 3 years, it makes me wonder if any Connecticut locations will be affected by these closures. Macy's is one of the few department stores that have survived these malls, so it would be sad to see another one shutter.
Something to note. As we know, there were so many stores that have announced closures this year. According to the article, the chain to announce the most closures was Family Dollar, followed by CVS and Big Lots. To see the full chart, you can check it out here.
