Popular Chain to Close 150 Locations, Will Connecticut Be Affected?
And here we go again! It is just not a good time for some businesses and it makes me sad for them. Like we have previously said, it seems we are reporting more and more business closures rather than openings. Hopefully we will get to a point where it's the opposite, but for now, news surfaced about another chain that will be closing multiple locations.
Denny's will be shutting 150 of their locations, according to the company's earnings call they had on Tuesday. Denny’s Executive Vice President and Chief Global Development Officer, Stephen Dunn, stated that many of the locations were getting older and they were too old to remodel while also lacking in profit. He mentioned that with 70+ years under their belt, you have many restaurants that have been out there for quite some time.
Denny's will be closing 150 locations. 50 of those will be closing within this year and the other 100 restaurants will be closing in 2025. It automatically makes me think, will any Connecticut restaurants be affected by these closures? There are currently 5 Denny's restaurants in Connecticut - Danbury, Hartford, Middletown, New London and Southington.
It has been a very long time since I've last been to a Denny's, but I am surprised to see that a lot of them are open 24 hours. Is this a known thing? Their menus have a variety of different things on them ranging from salads, burgers, sandwiches and melts, entrees, breakfast, etc. It kind of reminds me of a Friendly's type of menu.
I guess we will have to wait it out and see if our Connecticut locations will also be closing during this time. If so, what do you think would replace them? Another chain? I'd love to hear your thoughts.
