Police: Sandy Hook Man Threatens to ‘Kill a Cop Today’

The Connecticut State Police from Troop A in Southbury just announced that they have arrested a local man on Breach of Peace and Harassment charges after he allegedly sent threatening messages over social media.

24-year-old Sandy Hook resident, Alexander Timothy Hassinger, was placed under arrest at his residence by Trooper Detective Vanyan yesterday afternoon.

Earlier yesterday morning (6/24/20) at 11:43AM, Connecticut State Police received a complaint from a Virginia resident who reported they had found a Tweet on the social media site, Twitter, with the content being "imma kill a cop today and when they ask me why I did it, imma tell them he was acting nervous and looked at me wrong".

The Western District Major Crime Squad and State police from Troop A were assigned to investigate the incident, and after the investigation, took Hassinger into custody at his residence.

Hassinger was charged with 2nd Degree Breach of peace, and 1st Degree Harassment. He was released after posting a $10,000 bond, and a court date has been set at Waterbury Superior Court for July 15, 2020.
