According to the Bethel Police Department, they received a report on Christmas Day (December 25) that a resident in the area of Meckauer Circle saw someone trying to enter a vehicle that was reportedly parked in the resident's driveway.

When officers arrived, they reported cam upon the car in question, which not only had its engine running, but had a bunch on items that were believed to once be in the vehicle scattered about on the ground. That's when the responding officers spotted a man running through the woods away from the Meckauer Circle residential area, according to the department.

From there, one of the K-9 units from the Connecticut State Police was brought in to track the evading suspect. After a brief search, the police dog on the scene was alerted to the suspect's whereabouts after he reportedly began to call for help.

Police say that's when they found 18-year-old Javon Prior of Danbury entrapped within a small pond that he had attempted to run across before the ice broke through.

The Bethel police officers who were pursuing the suspect attempted to rescue the Danbury man immediately, but were unsuccessful to the fact that all of the ice surrounding the area was too thin. Prior was eventually rescued from the freezing water when the officers grabbed some sort of object from nearby, pulling him to safety.

Javon Prior was arrested on the spot and charged with burglary, larceny, and  possession of a controlled substance. He was released on $10,000 bail and is scheduled to appear in Danbury Superior Court on Tuesday, January 5.
