A Connecticut man is facing charges after police say he was living inside a van with nearly two dozen dogs and a bird.

According to a social media post from the Wethersfield Police Department, officers stopped the Ford Transit van pictured above at about 9:30 AM on Monday (May 27) for suspected motor vehicle violations.

While the van was pulled over, officers say they discovered that the unidentified driver had been living inside the vehicle for "several months."

Upon further investigation, police say that the interior of the van was completely covered in what they describe as garbage and animal waste, with a total of 22 dogs and a Macaw being found inside.

The operator of the vehicle was arrested and charged with animal cruelty, while the animals were transported to local shelters for evaluation.
