Sad news to report this afternoon, as police say a local woman was killed while walking along Candlewood Lake Road in Brookfield on Friday morning (October 4).

According to the Brookfield Police Department, 76-year-old Linda Warner had been either walking or jogging when she was struck by a Ford SUV in the area of 279 Candlewood Lake Road.

Police say the driver of the SUV, 50-year-old Gary Elwell, also of Brookfield, immediately dialed 9-1-1, and was on the scene when police arrived. Warner was transported to Danbury Hospital, where she was pronounced dead shortly after arrival. Elwell did not suffer any injuries and police say there were no other passengers in the vehicle.

The crash caused the section of Candlewood Lake Road between Main Drive and Kellog Street to be closed for about three hours while first responders were on the scene.

This crash is still being investigated by the Brookfield Accident Investigation Team.

Those involved, as well as their loved ones, are in our thoughts and in our hearts.
