According to the Brewster Fire Department (BFD), it all started Saturday night, April 19th, when Putnam County 911 received an automatic fire alarm that was triggered at a popular pizza place in Brewster, NY.

BFD reports that at approximately 9:02 p.m., they were dispatched to 2505 Carmel Avenue, a two-story strip mall near the intersection of Drewville Road in Brewster, NY.

Shortly after being dispatched to the scene, Putnam 911 updated the call to a commercial structure fire after it received reports of flames coming from inside Five Brothers Pizza, located on the first floor of the two-story strip mall.

As first responders arrived on the scene, Brewster Fire Assistant Chief Steven Miller reported a working fire in the pizzeria and requested a second alarm to bring in more help to fight the fire, including firefighters from Croton Falls, Carmel, and Lake Carmel.

BFD firefighters quickly jumped into action and forced entry into the pizzeria and began an aggressive interior attack on the fire, while additional firefighters searched the second-floor businesses to see if the fire had spread.

Thankfully, the fire didn't reach the second floor of the building, but there was a "heavy smoke condition" throughout the second-floor businesses. "Thankfully, the fire was contained to the occupancy of origin due to our quick response and highly trained firefighters," said Chief Miller.
