Pilot Killed In Manhattan Helicopter Crash From Dutchess County

A pilot from Dutchess County was killed in a helicopter crash-landing in New York City on Monday.

Timothy McCormack was the pilot of the helicopter that crash-landed in Manhattan. McCormack was from Clinton Corners in the Hudson Valley. McCormack is the only person who was killed in the crash. We reported earlier that McCormack received his commercial pilot license in September 2004. In June 2018, he received his flight instructor certificate for "Rotorcraft-Helicopter."

According to The Official East Clinton Volunteer Fire Department's Facebook, McCormack was the Chief of the department for 10 years. The page describes him as a "dedicated, highly professional, and extremely well-trained firefighter." Members of the community have been displaying their sorrow and devastation for the loss on Facebook.

Currently, it is unknown why McCormack crash landed the helicopter on top of a building at 787 7th Avenue, between 51st and 52nd Streets. Paul Dudley, the manager of the airport he flew out of, told NJ Advance Media that he believes the helicopter had a mechanical issue that caused McCormack to crash land.
