Party In The Sky With Rare Friday The 13th Harvest Moon

There is nothing like a beautiful night sky. Pair that up with a blazing Harvest Moon and you have all the ingredients for a real celestial treat.

You won't have to look far this weekend, actually you'll have to look up, to catch a very rare occurrence. It's a Friday the 13th Harvest Moon.

The last time we've had a Harvest Moon on a Friday the 13th was all the way back in 2000, but don't miss it this weekend because we won't have another Friday the 13th Harvest Moon again until 2049.

According to the Farmer’s Almanac, it's called a Harvest Moon because at the peak of harvest season farmers could work late in the night by this moon’s light. This moon is also called a “micro moon,” because the moon is its greatest distance from Earth.

You can catch this lunar spectacle just after sunset on Friday at 7:10 PM when the moon will be 99 percent full.

Then on Saturday, the Harvest Moon will rise at 7:35 PM and reach full illumination by 12:33 AM.

So plan your night viewing party, and good news from the National Weather Service, skies should be partly cloudy on Friday night, and clear on Saturday night, so you can enjoy the moon in all it's splendor.
