An integral part of New Milford's history and center of learning has shut its doors.

Since 1968, the Hunt Hill Farm also known as The Silo has closed up shop according to an article on newstimes.com. The Farm brought joy to thousands of residents as a destination for homemade farm products, nature, art, and a large variety of specialty cooking classes.

Skitch Henderson, the founder of the New York Pops and the musical director of the National Broadcasting Corp. purchased the property in 1972 and for the last 46 years, Hunt Hill Farm at 44 Upland Rd. in New Milford has been dedicated to bringing opportunities and experiences in learning about food, music, and the arts.

The Silo had made an impressive resurgence over the last couple of years especially their music program led by the popularity of their Thursday's Open Mic Nights.

Hunt Hill Farm's Board of Directors found that revenues weren't able to keep up with expenses and regrettably had no choice but to close down the operation. Skitch Henderson and his wife Ruth had turned the facility, not only into a cooking school and museum but an art gallery and an affiliate of the Smithsonian Institution. Hunt Hill Farm and The Silo were one of New Milford's quintessential treasures and will be sadly missed.
