NOAA Says Only 20% Chance of a White Christmas in Greater Danbury

If you're dreaming of a white Christmas, you may just have to keep on dreaming this year.

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration has dug deep into their historical records to see if there's any chance that the Greater Danbury area will see a white Christmas this year. The answer is: probably not. But you can't rule it out totally.

Right now, it's far too early to predict any weather pattern that will affect our area come Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. The National Weather Service even stays away from any predictions until we get much closer to December 25. The next best thing to do is delve into the archives, which gives us a percentage based on actual climate measurements taken over the last three decades.

So according to past history, the Greater Danbury area only has a 35% chance of having snow on the ground on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day.

If you want to increase your chances of actually having a white Christmas, your best bet is to head for the hills -- the Litchfield Hills. Northern Litchfield County has a 72% chance of snow for Christmas, but the number drops fast, back down to 35% once you get to the Woodbury area of Litchfield County.

If you just can't function without a white Christmas, then a ride to upstate New York, New Hampshire, Vermont or Maine may cure your Holiday hankering for snow. Otherwise, the next best thing to do is order your very own snow making machine and control the weather yourself.

So even if your Christmas isn't white, as the classic song goes, we're hoping it will be merry and bright.
