Newtown Police Discover Racist + Anti-Semitic Graffiti on Abandoned Truck

Newtown Police were called to the Hawleyville Road area by a passing motorist who saw racist, anti-semitic graffiti painted on an abandoned truck and boat.

The Newtown Police Department FB page states that after further investigation, it's believed the graffiti was painted in the middle of the night on June 24, 2021. Newtown's Highway Department was notified, and they promptly painted over the graffiti.

Newtown Police Department Police Chief James Viadero stated, "This incident is reprehensible and is being thoroughly investigated. We will not tolerate these types of incidents and those responsible will be prosecuted to the full extent of the law."

Recently I've been searching the internet for the psychology behind racism and antisemitism. I'm one of those guys who have never understood why some people believe that people with different colors of skin are inferior and need to be hated for it.

I found several articles on the subject and concluded that there are various reasons for the "how" and "why" of racism. However, I thought a Washington Post article dated August 14, 2017, explained it best.

In the article, Yale University social psychologist Jennifer Richeson explains that "People learn to be whatever their society and culture teach them; this is not the product of some deep-seated, evil heart that is cultivated. Instead, it comes from the environment, the air all around us."

The environment Richeson is referring to could be your group of friends in school. To remain in sync with the group, oftentimes, the individuals will adopt the group's values and beliefs.
