Newtown K-9 Police Officer Receives ‘Officer of the Year’ Honors

"Somebody like her can touch a community."

The comment above was made by Newtown Police Chief, James Viadero about Newtown K-9 Police Officer Felicia Figol as she was named Connecticut Officer of the Year for "exceptional service" by the Newtown-based American Legion Post 202 reported by the Newtown Bee. Newtown First Selectman, Dan Rosenthal said,

We benefit by having people like Felicia serve the community...Felicia embodies the police staff very well.

Officer Figol is currently training her third police dog named, Aris and has also been lauded about her work with the Newtown Police Cadet program. American Legion Post 202 Commander, Nick Cabral presented the plaque symbolizing the award while saying,

She can be considered the poster child of police officers.

Not only is Felicia a K-9 Officer but she's also a field training officer, a certified police instructor, a crisis intervention officer, and she runs a program designed for females called 'Escape Alive,' which concentrates on the demonstration of self-defense techniques.
