We might be experiencing a warm weather stretch right now, but in general this been a really cold winter. It's been so cold that New York Governor Andrew Cuomo’s office reports that New York residents are struggling with their heating bills more than last year. There has been a forty percent increase in requests for the Home Energy Assistance Program, or HEAP (heating assistance) this winter compared to last year.

More help is on the way according to Governor Cuomo . Households in can apply for a second emergency benefit through the Home Energy Assistance Program (HEAP), and those benefits are available now. If you or someone you know is facing the possibility of having their heat shut off, this emergency benefit can help. A household income of up to $53,500 per year can qualify.

Even if you have received HEAP already, you can apply for additional funding through this program. To find out more and see how to apply, click here.
