Dutchess County Man Convicted of Shark Trafficking From Above-Ground Pool
Abc7ny.com has reported that shark trafficking was taking place in Dutchess County.
New York Attorney General Letitia James came down hard when she said, "We will not tolerate anyone who preys on protected species to line their pockets." She was speaking about a LaGrangeville man named Joshua Seguine, who was recently convicted of shark trafficking.
That's right, Seguine was trafficking FISH but not just any fish. You almost have to respect his creativity. His mistake was to cover up the same fishy crime in the state of Georgia back in July of 2017.
Joshua Seguine's days as a shark trafficker came to an end this past Wednesday when he was convicted of illegal trafficking in the Town of LaGrangeville and ordered to pay a $5,000 fine. Tennessee Aquarium posted the following video in January of this year.
He kept the sharks in a pool at his home and was selling them online at MonsterFishKeepers.com. State environmental conservation officers searched and found seven live sharks hanging out in his above-ground pool.
Sandbar sharks were Seguine's shark of choice during his trafficking days and are found over muddy or sandy bottoms in shallow coastal waters. For whatever reason, sandbar sharks are not known to attack humans and are considered one of the safest sharks to swim with.
Seguine told authorities he was transporting the sharks to sell them in New York, adding that he had live sharks at his home in LaGrangeville, NY. Sandbar sharks grow between 6.5 to 7.5 feet and live for over 20 years.
