Tom Dobson was weaned onto Country Music thanks to his Mom's love for artists like Garth Brooks, Shania Twain, and Brooks and Dunn. Now Tom's setting out to set the Country Music world on fire.

Born and raised in New Milford, Tom has definitely taken what some would call a backwards approach to his musical career. The first thing most artists do is usually perform live wherever they can, and then get into a studio to record once they've established some sort of fan base. For Tom, he's done the studio thing first, now he's out letting everyone hear his music, and most notably, his first single, "American Man."

We had Tom on the show with us Wednesday morning (February 28), and I asked him how this song came about:

I like to do a little wood working, and one day, when I was in a musical rut, I was strumming my guitar and started messing with a song I was working on called 'American Man'  So I'm working with the title, I'm an American Man, and my hands were hurting from sanding a table, so I added that in — I got sandpaper hands. And then the rest of the song just fell into place.

Tom's doing a "free" show at Daryl's House in Pawling tonight (February 28), and he'll be performing all over the area in the coming months.

Check out his first single "American Man", which he performed live on our show:
