Next week, September 20-26, 2020, is Child Passenger Safety Awareness Week in the United States. The purpose is to highlight how important it is that a child is properly secured by an appropriate car seat or seat belt. Depending on a child's height, weight, or age, there are many factors when it comes to determining which is the proper and appropriate safety harness for your child, and your vehicle. The New Milford Police Department took to their Facebook page to announce that they are going to present a free Child Safety Seat Clinic Saturday, September 26, where they will have officers who are Certified Child Passenger Safety Technicians check and show you how to properly install, and use, your child safety seat.

The free clinic is going to be held Saturday the 26th from 9AM until 2PM in the South parking lot of Faith Church at 600 Danbury Road (Rt. 7) in New Milford. No appointment is necessary, COVID-19 restrictions are in effect, with social distancing and masks mandated. Cars must be clean, and all passengers must exit the cars for the inspection and teaching processes. If you have any questions, you may email Sargent Dzamko at jdzamko@newmilfordpolice.org.

According to an article by nationaltoday.com, road injuries are the leading cause of death for children in the US, until 13 years of age, children should ride in the back seat. During an accident, a car seat can reduce the infant fatality rate by 71 percent, and it's estimated that almost half of all child safety seats are not properly installed.
