Affectionate, adventurous, adorable and alert -- what more can you say about this weeks featured Pet of the Week?

Her name is Latoya and she's a Pit/Terrier mix and a really nice dog that came to the AWS from a shelter in Puerto Rico that they partner with. If you look at her pictures, she looks like she's loving the snow here in the Northeast.

Latoya would be a great hiking partner and is also a cuddler. She's good with kids, however, the Animal Welfare Society does recommend energetic dogs like this to not be placed in a home with very young children because these dogs are all muscle and are pretty solid which could result in knocking a small child over. She is, however, good with other dogs and even gets along well with cats. But due to her breed and her high prey drive, she would probably be better in a home without the cats.

Of course she's all up to date on her vaccines and has been spayed.

The shelter is always in need of items to help keep the animals safe and clean. Right now, they are looking for bleach, paper towels and dry cat food.

If you can contribute, you can drop off the items at the shelter at 8 Dodd Road in New Milford. Just let them know you're going to drop something off, and you can do it with no contact by just leaving it in front of their building. You can also check the Animal Welfare website for their Amazon wish list, and have the items delivered right to the shelter.
